Fintan Media is going in for a Re-design PDF Print E-mail

I wholeheartedly apologise for the lack of updates for the past year. I've been working part-time AND doing a full-time degree course. On the upside, my part-time contract ends on the 30th of this month and my degree course is finished so I'll have plenty of time to update FintanMedia with a wealth of things that I've learnt over the past year - including PaperVision3D, a lot more ActionScript 3.0 (some of it getting pretty advanced), and some long-style projects such as building a game from scratch etc.

However! First of all on my list is a complete overhaul and re-design of this website. It's going to be fresh and exciting. I'm going to get rid of my Joomla content management system and build my own from scratch (Joomla was only a quick and easy interim solution anyway).

So, wish me good luck in this re-design and I hope you'll like it

Sound can be added, played, stopped, paused and dynamically manipulated through ActionScript 3.0. This tutorial aims to teach you how to control this sound to give your users a great (and usable) audio experience.

This sound manipulation can be split into several categories:

  1. Importing and Initialising the sound
  2. Starting, Stopping and Looping
  3. Manipulating the Sound

On the 19th of September I gave a very successful Photoshop Masterclass. In this class I taught the very basics of Photoshop to get the delegates up to a standard where they felt they were comfortable using the software.

I can now bring you the Masterclass PDF that I used in the session free of charge - but I warn you, it's a rather large file. Download

Interaction between sets of MovieClips plays a big part in making interactive applications, especially games. You'll often feel the need to be able to handle a collision between two or more MovieClips:

  • A Car hitting an obstacle and crashing
  • A bullet or arrow hitting a target
  • A soccer ball rebounding from the crossbar of the goal

ActionScript 3.0 makes it very simple to handle these collisions. There are 5 stages:

Understanding Layers PDF Print E-mail

Now, for some, understanding layers is one of the more challenging aspects of Photoshop, especially if you’ve never used any similar software before.

Picture a collage. The bottom layer is the canvas, and then all the images are laid on top of each other in overlapping ways so that there is a clear order of layers.

Layers play a huge part in Photoshop and knowing how to utilise what is offered by layers is an essential skill.
